Exam Overview

The test consisted of two papers. Both papers had only objective type Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs). The test was taken in two separate sessions, as mentioned below:

Paper I consisted of 50 objective-type compulsory questions, each carrying 2 marks. The questions were general and intended to assess the candidate’s teaching/research aptitude. It was designed to test the candidate’s reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness.

Paper – II had 100 objective-type compulsory questions, each carrying 2 marks, based on the subject selected by the candidate.

The candidates were asked to mark the responses to Paper I and Paper II questions on the Optical Marks Reader (OMR) Sheet provided along with the test booklet.

Qualifying Marks

These are the baseline scores that candidates must achieve to be considered for evaluation and further processing. The qualifying marks are set differently for various categories:

  1. General Category: Candidates in this category need to score at least 40% aggregate marks in both Paper I and Paper II.
  2. Reserved Categories (CAT-I, IIA, IIB, IIIA, IIIB, SC, ST, PWD (VH/PH)): For these categories, the requirement is slightly lower. Candidates must score at least 35% aggregate marks in the two papers.

Cut-Off Score

Cut-off marks are the scores that determine the selection of candidates for eligibility as lecturers or assistant professors. The cut-off scores are different for various categories such as General, Other Backward Classes (OBC), Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Persons with Disabilities (PwD).

It is affected by the exam’s difficulty level – a harder exam may have a lower cut-off. The number of candidates also affects it; more could mean a higher cut-off.

This year’s expected cut-off table for the Karnataka State Eligibility Test (KSET) is based on previous years’ trends. However, consider that actual cut-offs can vary due to numerous factors.

Category Expected Cut-Off Marks (%)
