KPSC KAS Syllabus 2024, Check Preliminary Exam Scheme and Paper Pattern

The Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) conducts the Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) exam, a highly sought-after gateway for aspiring civil servants to join the state’s administrative ranks. This exam offers an opportunity for candidates aspiring to secure Group A and B positions (Gazetted Probationers).

The commission is initiating a recruitment drive with 384 vacancies, including 159 for Group A and 225 for Group B posts. Applications for these posts were accepted from 4 March to 3 April 2024. This prestigious exam demands a well-structured approach. KPSC KAS Exam Pattern

The KAS exam unfolds in three progressive stages, each testing a distinct set of skills:

Preliminary Examination (Objective)

This screening test filters candidates for the Main exam. It comprises two papers:

  • General Studies Paper I: Covering a wide range of topics like Indian History, Geography, Polity, Economy, Science & Technology, and Current Affairs (200 marks, 2 hours).
  • Kannada Language Paper (or English): Assessing your proficiency in the chosen language (150 marks, 2 hours).

Main Examination (Subjective)

This stage evaluates your in-depth knowledge and writing skills. It consists of seven papers:

  • Kannada Language Paper (Compulsory): Testing your Kannada language skills (100 marks, 3 hours).
  • General Studies Paper I-IV: Exploring various aspects of Indian and Karnataka-specific topics (250 marks each, 3 hours each).
  • Interview: This final stage assesses your personality, communication skills, decision-making abilities, and suitability for the administrative role.

Preliminary Examination

General Studies Paper I:

  • History: Ancient, Medieval, Modern Indian History, emphasising Karnataka.
  • Geography: Physical and human geography of India and Karnataka.
  • Polity and Economy: Indian Constitution, Political System, Economic Policies, and Five-Year Plans.
  • Science & Technology: Basic understanding of scientific concepts and their applications.
  • Current Affairs: National and international issues with a focus on Karnataka.

Kannada Language Paper (or English):

  • Comprehension, Grammar, Vocabulary, Writing Skills (Kannada) or English Language Skills.

Main Examination

Kannada Language Paper (Compulsory): Advanced Kannada language and literature topics.

General Studies Papers (I-IV):

  • Paper I: Covers India and Karnataka’s history and cultural heritage in detail.
  • Paper II: Explores the intricacies of Indian Polity and Administration, covering topics like decentralization, governance, and public policy.
  • Paper III: Delves into social issues, poverty alleviation schemes, and economic development strategies.

Important Note: As per the latest updates, the optional subjects have been removed from the KAS exam.
