KPSC KAS Exam Pattern
The KAS exam unfolds in three progressive stages, each testing a distinct set of skills:
Preliminary Examination (Objective)
This screening test filters candidates for the Main exam. It comprises two papers:
- General Studies Paper I: Covering a wide range of topics like Indian History, Geography, Polity, Economy, Science & Technology, and Current Affairs (200 marks, 2 hours).
- Kannada Language Paper (or English): Assessing your proficiency in the chosen language (150 marks, 2 hours).
Main Examination (Subjective)
This stage evaluates your in-depth knowledge and writing skills. It consists of seven papers:
- Kannada Language Paper (Compulsory): Testing your Kannada language skills (100 marks, 3 hours).
- General Studies Paper I-IV: Exploring various aspects of Indian and Karnataka-specific topics (250 marks each, 3 hours each).
- Interview: This final stage assesses your personality, communication skills, decision-making abilities, and suitability for the administrative role.
