The CWB offers two parts to its financial support: the basic amount and the disability supplement. Each comes with a maximum payout depending on your circumstances, gradually decreasing as your income rises. Let’s break it down:

Basic Amount:

  • Singles: You can receive up to $1,428, but this amount shrinks as your income after adjustments (“adjusted net income”) surpasses $23,495. No basic amount is offered if your adjusted net income exceeds $33,015.

Claiming the Canada Workers Benefit (CWB) 2024

There are two ways to claim your CWB.

When you file your income tax return:

  1. This is the traditional method and ensures you receive the correct amount based on your actual income.
  2. Do your taxes electronically or file a paper return, including Schedule 6 (Canada Workers Benefit).

Through automatic advance payments:

  1. The CRA estimates your CWB based on your previous year’s income and sends you three advance payments throughout the current year.
  2. No need to apply separately, but receiving the ACWB doesn’t guarantee you’ll get the full amount, and you might need to repay some at tax time.
